I LOVE spearmint and I LOVE shiny lips!
Dr. Oz has been quoted as saying that women can ingest up to 7 pounds of lip gloss/lip stick in a life time…YUK! That’s disgusting! Many brands use chemicals, additives, fragrance, dyes and even pesticides in their formulations!!! Skin is the largest organ in your body and EVERYTHING you put on it gets absorbed into your body. I make this quick and easy lip gloss because I can lick my lips as often as I want and not worry about slowly poisoning myself. Its makes a great gift idea too! I buy the herbs and ingredients for my herbal preparations from an online company called Mountain Rose Herbs.
Here is the link to their website…Browse around and see what awesome products they carry. You can purchase all of the ingredients and containers used for this recipe there!
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon (4-5) fresh spearmint leaves (you can use other mint flavors such as pineapple mint, cinnamon mint or chocolate mint leaves for this recipe too)
2 teaspoons almond or walnut oil
1 teaspoon grated beeswax
Directions:
- Place leaves in a glass container.
- Gently crush the leaves to release the natural oils with the back of a spoon.
- Pour oil over the leaves and allow the mixture to sit for a 3-4 days. For a stronger scent or taste, replace the leaves with new ones each day.
- After 3-4 days remove the mint leaves from the oil. Mix mint oil and beeswax and gently heat in a double boiler pot until the wax melts.
- Pour melted mixture into a clean tin (such as the one pictured above) and let it cool completely.
- To use, apply to lips (and feel free to lick away, this is all natural)
